Originally a single studio in Williamsburg, Triskelion Arts was co-founded in 2000 by the former dance collective KICK|STANDance. In 2005 with help from tech guru, Brian Aldous, Founding Director, Abby Bender, turned the studio into a convertible black box known as The Aldous Theater. Three years later, with Andrew Dickerson as Technical Director, Triskelion Arts expanded to three rehearsal studios and two theaters. In 2015, after a two-year capital campaign and renovations, Triskelion Arts opened its new home in a standalone building in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, which boasts a ground floor black box theater, studio theater, and three rehearsal studios. Triskelion Arts has blossomed into one of Brooklyn’s most valued centers for dance. More than 600 original productions have taken place on its stages, and its patrons have used countless subsidized rehearsal and class hours. In 2019, we welcomed our new Executive Director, Rachel Mckinstry, Managing Director, Hannah Wendel, and Technical Director, David Glista. Triskelion Arts has worked with many extraordinary artists, including Mei Yamanaka, Jamal Jackson, Vangeline Dance Theater, 2nd Best Dance Company, Nicole Wolcott, Mari Meade Dance Collective, Jennifer Nugent, Boy Friday Company, Remi Harris + Mark Schmidt, Maleek Washington, Miz Jade and more. In 2019, Triskelion Arts was recognized by Borough President Eric Adams for our outstanding work in our communities with an official citation and the seal of our borough. Also, we fulfilled all of our planned goals, serving 73 paid dance companies with Technical Support and contracted 4 Guest Curators seen by over 3000 audience members. And, we provided over 6500 hours of subsidized rehearsal to over 450 dance artists. Triskelion Arts has a long history drawing from its community and fostering long-term relationships with its staff and artists. As a founding member and original Technical Director, Andrew Dickerson continues to support Triskelion Arts as Board President. Andrew draws on his experience as Production Manager at The Times Center in Manhattan and The New York Times’ TimesTalks, Associate Technical Director at Performance Space, and Production Coordinator at Montclair State University’s Theater Department to provide counsel and guidance for Triskelion Arts.
