Contact

Families with dependent children make up the largest and fastest growing segment of the homeless population. Family Promise is the only organization in Bergen County providing services and shelter to homeless working families. Family Promise Network: The Family Promise Network is a Sheltering Program for homeless working families with dependent children. Local congregations around Bergen County host up to 14 people at a time on a weekly rotating schedule. Families are provided with safe and comfortable shelter, three meals, companionship, and support. Host congregation volunteers, along with others from neighboring congregations, interact with families, play with the children, and act as overnight hosts. Visit the page for a list of Participating Host and Support Congregations. Walk-In Dinner Program Since 1991, the Family Promise Walk -In Dinner Program has been providing dinner to approximately 140 people in the community 365 days a year. Dinner is provided and served by dedicated volunteer groups at the Bergen County Health and Human Services Center in Hackensack. Steps to Success Assistance is offered for job training or educational advancement to give parents the tools to compete for better paying jobs. Childcare and transportation subsidies remove common barriers to successful employment. Along with intensive case management, other programs include financial literacy, parenting support, workplace readiness skills, literacy and enrichment for children. Camp Lots of Fun Each summer Family Promise’s Camp Lots-of-Fun allows up to 30 kids ages 5 to 12 to participate in sports, swimming, arts and crafts, nature study and field trips the last two weeks of August. This year, Camp Lots-of-Fun hosted 24 kids with 24 counselors, providing a unique one-to-one counselor-to-camper ratio.
