This is a two-session program for teens whose use of drugs or alcohol is beginning to create problems for them in their lives. This includes teens that have begun to get into trouble with their families, at school, in the community and with the law. While in the program, teens are provided with opportunities to explore the relationship that their substance use has to the consequences that they have begun to experience and to practice decision making skills to help them avoid situations that could lead to future problems. The CHAT program is held Friday evenings from 5:00pm – 7:00pm and Saturday mornings from 9:30am – 11:30am. The fee for CHAT is $150.00. A parent is required to attend Parent CHAT, held at the same time as their child’s second CHAT session on Saturday morning from 9:30am-11:30am. The parent session helps parents understand the effects of alcohol and drugs on teens and the influential role they have on the choices their children make regarding future use. For most parents, this is the first time they have ever discussed their fears, successes, or ignorance about their own child’s alcohol or drug use. It helps them identify ways of initiating and structuring further dialogue with their children.
